Environment and Sustainability
Practical steps that suit a local home care service.
How does Radiant Support reduce its environmental impact?
Radiant Support's biggest environmental impact is carers' travel between visits, so we plan rounds to keep journeys short. We keep care records digitally on the Birdie platform, manage care waste under our infection control policy, buy only what we need, and have committed to Net Zero by 2050 at the latest, measured through a Carbon Reduction Plan prepared in line with Procurement Policy Note 006.
Radiant Support has an Environmental Sustainability Policy, reference RS-ENV-01, signed by the Director. It is written around how a home care service actually works, and sets out who is responsible for each part of it.
Where We Focus
Travel Between Calls
Travel is our biggest impact. We plan rounds so carers visit people who live close together, avoid doubling back, and keep rounds within compact areas of Corby and Kettering.
Digital Working
Care records, visit schedules, medication prompts and supervision are kept on the Birdie platform, cutting paper, printing and trips to the office.
Waste
Care waste, including personal protective equipment, is handled in line with our infection prevention and control policy, and office waste is kept to a minimum.
Purchasing
We buy only what we need, choose local suppliers where we can, and consider environmental impact when buying equipment and consumables.
Measuring our footprint
We are measuring our carbon footprint using UK Government greenhouse gas conversion factors. The measurement covers energy used at our office, business travel in carers' own cars between visits, staff commuting and waste. These figures form the baseline for our Carbon Reduction Plan.
Responsibilities
- The Director owns the policy and signs off our Carbon Reduction Plan.
- The Registered Manager makes sure rounds are planned efficiently and that care waste is handled correctly.
- Every member of staff is expected to follow the policy and suggest improvements.
Honest about where we are
Radiant Support does not hold ISO 14001 certification and does not claim to. As a small local provider we focus on the practical measures above, and we review the policy each year.
