Safeguarding and Whistleblowing

Keeping the people we support safe is everyone's job.

How does Radiant Support keep people safe?

Radiant Support recruits safely, trains every member of staff to recognise and report abuse and neglect, plans care around identified risks, and reports concerns straight away to North Northamptonshire Council's adult safeguarding team and the CQC. Our Registered Manager leads on safeguarding, and staff can raise concerns without fear through our whistleblowing arrangements.

Our commitment

Radiant Support will not tolerate abuse or neglect of any kind. We work to the six principles of adult safeguarding set out in the Care Act 2014: empowerment, prevention, proportionality, protection, partnership and accountability. The person's own wishes are at the centre of every decision we make about their safety.

What we look out for

Staff are trained to recognise the types of abuse and neglect described in the Care Act 2014 statutory guidance:

  • Physical, sexual and psychological or emotional abuse.
  • Financial or material abuse, including scams and pressure from others.
  • Neglect and acts of omission, and self-neglect.
  • Discriminatory abuse.
  • Organisational abuse.
  • Domestic abuse and coercive control.
  • Modern slavery and exploitation.

How we keep people safe

  • Safe recruitment: Enhanced DBS checks, right to work checks and references before anyone starts.
  • Safeguarding adults training at induction, refreshed regularly.
  • Care plans that identify and manage risks, reviewed regularly and when needs change.
  • Supervision and spot checks so concerns are picked up early.
  • Care notes recorded in real time, so changes in a person's wellbeing are visible to the office straight away.
  • Care provided in line with the Mental Capacity Act 2005, including capacity assessments and best interests decisions where a person lacks capacity.

What Happens When a Concern Is Raised

  1. Make Safe

The carer makes sure the person is safe, calling 999 if they are in immediate danger.

  2. Report

The concern is reported to the Registered Manager immediately and recorded factually.

  3. Refer

The Registered Manager refers the concern to North Northamptonshire Council's adult safeguarding team, and to the police where a crime may have been committed.

  4. Notify

We notify the CQC as required and inform the commissioner of any concern involving a person on their contract.

  5. Learn

We cooperate fully with any enquiry, and review what happened so that practice improves.
