Paying for Home Care
A plain English guide for families in North Northamptonshire.
How do I pay for home care in Corby or Kettering?
Home care is either paid for privately (self-funded) or funded fully or partly by North Northamptonshire Council after a needs and financial assessment. Some people qualify for NHS Continuing Healthcare. Council funding can be taken as a direct payment so you can choose a provider such as Radiant Support.
Paying privately
If you pay for your own care, you arrange it directly with us. After the free assessment we give you a written quote based on the visits in your care plan, so you know the cost before care starts.
Council funding
North Northamptonshire Council can carry out a free care needs assessment under the Care Act 2014. If you are eligible, a financial assessment works out how much, if anything, you contribute. You can ask for an assessment on the council's website.

Direct payments and personal budgets
If the council funds your care, you can usually take the money as a direct payment and use it to pay a provider you choose. We are happy to work with direct payments.
NHS Continuing Healthcare
If your needs are mainly health needs, the NHS may pay for all of your care. This is decided by an NHS assessment.
Attendance Allowance
Attendance Allowance is a benefit for people over State Pension age who need help with personal care because of an illness or disability. It is not means tested and can help towards the cost of care.
